Today's Rant - FOX NEWS!
Posted on March 29, 2011
It continues to blow my mind that such an irresponsible news organization still exists. The reason it’s the #1 most watched news network, I assume, is because the ignorant rednecks in this country vastly outnumber the intelligentia. Sad, but true.
I watch Fox news on occasion to see how people such as Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly are spinning major policy initiatives to satisfy their right-wing conservative Christian base. Fox has been caught airing so many lies it’s no wonder I’m running out of things to throw at my television set. I tune in, especially, after President Obama gives a speech to see how they’re going to bastardize everything he just said. I, personally, don’t agree with all the decisions our president has made, and I have the right of any citizen to write my congressman or senator about my thoughts on a particular issue, as well as sign petitions and attend rallies. Fox News, however, is negligent in their approach to opposing positions spewing outrageous lies in order to breed Obama-haters and fear mongers.
I find it staggering that people don’t understand just how much damage George W. did to this country’s economy while he was in office. And, did anyone realistically believe that Obama could change the world in two years? Let’s be a little pragmatic, people. You can’t add a couple of plants and some throw pillows and turn a crack den into a palace. Changing the world takes time – you have to lay a solid foundation or you’ll just end up moving from one crack house to another. Perhaps President Obama jumped the gun on a few things in a desperate attempt to placate a bitter post-Bush populace. And, with a nation screaming for change, it’s no wonder! But, when Fox news does everything within their power to promote the annihilation of civil liberties, it infuriates me.
Clearly, the Republican Party of yesteryear is no more. I applaud those current Republicans who’ve held on to its original ideology and have yet to be swayed by the extreme Christian Right. My grandfather was a Republican. He was born in 1900, a year before Theodore Roosevelt took office. Roosevelt was the leader of the Progressive and Conservation movements. He wanted the average citizen to have their “fair share,” and won the Nobel Peace Prize for negotiating the end to the Russo-Japanese War. Where is the Teddy Roosevelt of today and why isn’t he/she getting any “air time” when candidates like, Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann are busy chewing on the scenery on national television? Find me an intelligent, progressive male or female Republican who believes in equality for all and the separation of church and state, and I’ll give that person my consideration. Until that day arrives, keep the crazy off my television!
